As a IT Project Manager, you will:

  • Provide overall planning, coordination, and direction in the establishment and accomplishment of project goals.
  • Translate broad concepts and objectives into projects and programs with specific delineation of the role for various organizational/functional elements.
  • Perform oversight functions such as planning the overall project, developing and executing the project budget, completing required governance, security reviews, and reporting, reviewing and monitoring work assignments, coordinating activities with management and technical staff and reporting progress to senior-level management, coordinating resolution to problems, and assessing project performance.
  • Analyze information gathered from research conducted by staff under the direction of the Project Manager, evaluation of historical perspectives and a current knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and technological advances.
  • Advise senior management on best alternatives for the implementation of systems, procedures and services.
  • Plan efforts towards achieving long-range goals in maintaining a current and effective IT architecture to facilitate achieving compatibility of CDC-wide systems integration.
  • Coordinate, integrate, and analyze information of the current applications and activities, consider relationships to legacy, existing operating platforms, or other systems in the concept stage, and make recommendations on the implementation of future architecture and procedural directions.

Qualifications

Special Notes:
-Term appointments may be shortened or extended up to a maximum of four years based on the needs of the agency without further competition. Subsequent employment for CDC positions must be through the appropriate competitive process or special employment program hiring authorities.
-Overseas Assignments: Overseas assignments are for two years. The assignment may be extended based on the needs of the agency.
-This position will be entitled to comparability pay once deployed to overseas location.
-These positions may be eligible for special pay allowances (e.g., post differential, housing, relocation, etc.).
-Immunizations are required and will be administered by the CDC before relocating overseas.
-Potential selectees will remain in a different location, whether domestic or international, from the specific advertised position location. This is to complete the required training and security and/or medical clearances.
-To work overseas for the CDC, the selectee will need to obtain security and medical clearances before being cleared to report to the overseas duty station. Continued employment will be subject to submission of all documentation necessary to obtain the medical and security clearances (including documentation for any accompanying dependents), within thirty (30) business days and obtaining the security clearance within six (6) months of the initial appointment. Please note the inability to secure the clearances necessary for overseas duty will result in termination of the appointment to the position.
-Citizens or permanent residents of the host country are not eligible to be considered.
-Current permanent status CDC employees will be processed using a Term appointment. The selectee will not have statutory return rights. Subsequent employment for CDC positions must be through the appropriate competitive process or special employment program hiring authorities. Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include IT experience in planning, organizing and directing Information Technology (IT) projects to include: establishing project goals and objectives, setting priorities, resolving problems, establishing information systems security protocols and associated implementation and operational costs and I have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
