Help

As a Data Scientist, you will:

  • Perform work relate to identifying the methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and systems to extract and interpret findings.
  • Serve as an authoritative source of technical input to provide manager or leadership with objectively based information derived from the use of advanced scientific, mathematical, and statistical principles and theories.
  • Plan, constructs and maintain databases for data storage, manipulation and retrieval.
  • Perform complex fact-finding, design, software surveys, and cost/benefit analyses for new or modified computer applications resulting in the design or modification of systems.
  • Develop innovative approaches to complex situations or problems that are unique and require significant departures from previous problems, studies and/or investigations.
  • Combine, analyze, and interpret complex data sets to develop data-driven organizations solutions.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at lease at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

Or

B. Combination of education and experience. Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in identifying the methods, processes, algorithms, tools and systems to extract and interpret findings from varied structured and unstructured data sets related to specific occupational safety and health issues.

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements.
