As a FISH AND WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST your duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Coordinates, collects and processes field specimens for analysis according to established procedures, methods and techniques.
Conducts routine field experiments using various data-collection systems and extracts and analyzes data from these systems.
As directed, conducts program analyses, and reviews results of studies or investigations. Drafts sections of reports that include recommendations for changes, elimination, or improvement of operations and program plans.
Reviews research and reports prepared by outside parties, such as technical reports, biological assessments, and environmental impact reports, and provides recommendations orally and in writing to identify conservation needs and opportunities for imperiled species.
Gathers, organizes, and interprets a wide variety of biological, ecological, pathological, public use data or other information pertinent to scientific studies.
Participates in partnerships/collaborative groups and meets with partners, stakeholders, and general public to communicate the mission of the USFWS, respective USFWS office priorities and conservation needs.

In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.
Basic Requirement:
Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR
A combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in the biological sciences (i.e. at least 24 semester hours) as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in the biological sciences, agriculture, or natural resources management or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
Minimum Qualification [GS-07]
One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing work in the field of, or directly related to, fish and/or wildlife biological science. Qualifying experience includes: (1) conducting field studies and biological work assignments using established methods and procedures; (2) gathering and organizing biological, ecological, or other data pertinent to scientific studies; (3) assisting in analyzing, and reporting on fish and wildlife resources of an area; and (4) participating in public use or education programs. NOTE: To qualify under this option, your resume must contain sufficient detail to prove you have one year experience equivalent to the GS-05 level performing these duties; OR
Completed at least 1 full year of graduate education in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR
Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.). S.A.A. is based on (1) Class Standing, (2) Grade-Point Average, or (3) Honor Society Membership. (1) Class Standing: Upper one-third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision based on completed courses. (2) Grade-Point Average: A grade point average of (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (B or better) as recorded on the official transcript or as computed based on four years of education, or computed based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum; -or- (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 0 (B+ or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final two years of the curriculum. (3) Election to Membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society: Applicants may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies. Freshman scholastic honor societies cannot be used to meet the requirements of this position; OR
A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement.
Minimum Qualification [GS-09]
One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing work in the field of, or directly related to fish and/or wildlife biological science. Qualifying experience includes: (1) Conducting field studies and biological work assignments using standard scientific techniques and knowledge of fish and wildlife biology principles and theories; (2) Analyzing biological data using statistical software and/or geographic information system (GIS) software; (3) Writing scientific reports; (4) Applying biological data to develop management recommendations for conservation of species and habitats; and (5) Preparing and delivering presentations. NOTE: To qualify under this option, your resume must contain sufficient detail to prove you have one year experience equivalent to the GS-07 level performing these duties; OR
Completed two years of progressively higher level graduate education at an accredited college or university leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or a directly related field appropriate to this position; OR
An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate level education beyond the first year (as showing above) which together equals 100% of the requirements. (When combining education with experience, first determine the total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then determine the experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.)
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Promotion Potential: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the full performance level of GS-7/9. At lower grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-7/9. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. The selectee may be promoted without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
