This position is located with the Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS) in Phoenix, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to perform machining operations that involve the manufacture of complex and non-routine parts and items from raw stock of differing metals, metal alloys, and other materials in support of maintenance activities. Work products are typically one-of-a-kind and involve unusual trade problems that require a high degree of ingenuity and responsibility.
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
ARIZONA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Army National Guard, in a military organization supported by the CSMS.
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Qualifications
Military Grades: E-3/PFC-E-8/MSG
Compatible Military Assignments: 91 Series (Must possess or be able to qualify for)
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least 48 months experience or training that has provided the candidate with a basic knowledge of machining processes. Must have the ability to use drill presses, shapers, planers and other types of associated machine tools. Experience or training performing the full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments. Experience or training in planning and lay out work from blueprints, worksheets and other drawings that may have missing or incorrect information. Skill in applying shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles to be machined. Skill in programming machining operations, setting up and operating CNC machine tools. Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced shop mathematics such as geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computation for laying out work, machining pieces at unusual or compound angles, determining gear ratios pitch, angles and other similar exact or precision dimension.

2. Skill and ingenuity in using machine tools and their attachments to perform machining processes requiring special adaptations of equipment or processes for which they were not specifically designed.
3. Skill in performing work assignments that require accomplishing untried tasks or procedures such as those required in machining rare metals, new metal alloys, or other new materials.
4. Knowledge of the effect and relationship of heat-treating, welding, soldering and other related work processes on various machining operations to complete assignment.
5. Thorough knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, with skill in using geometric and trigonometric formulas to compute compound angles, angular indexing, hole patterns, pitch lead, and pitch diameters for various standard and non-standard threads.
6. Skill in manufacturing an entire item, carrying out machining operations necessary for completion, and performing precision handwork such as filing, scraping and lapping to fit, assembling, and finishing machined parts.
7. Knowledge of various metals and other materials such as aluminum, brass, bronze, high carbon and alloy steel, chrome, nickel, titanium, molybdenum, super alloys, nylon, rubber, plastics, and Teflon to produce desired cuts and finishes on each material.
8. Thorough knowledge of all aspects of machining operations as well as extensive knowledge of related trades in order to resolve problems concerning complex machining operations or procedures and to suggest more efficient or economic machining processes where necessary.
