Duties

Help
  • Provide cybersecurity support in the facilitation of IT Security Assessment and Authorization process of the Decennial IT systems, applications, and networking infrastructures as mandated by the FISMA and in accordance with NIST security guidelines.
  • Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and protection needs.
  • As part of the System Development Life Cycle, participate in the development and review of IT architectures to ensure during the development phase IT security controls are implemented as required per NIST guidelines.
  • Develop and conduct systems Security Contingency Plans (CPs) and participate in the development and testing of Disaster Recovery Plans (DRPs), Contingency Of Operation Plans (COOPs), and procedures while ensuring FISMA compliance by all data users.

Qualifications

Specialized experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Experience conducting risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks and protection needs; experience assessing potential security violations or problems through analysis of audit trails or log files; assessing security events to determine impact and implementation corrective actions; experience in the development of systems security Contingency Plans i.e. Contingency Plans (CPs), Continuity of Operation Plans (COOPs), Disaster Recovery Plans (DRPs), IT Contingency Plans (ITCP).

In accordance with OPM, for all IT-related positions, individuals must have experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Education: Education cannot be substituted at this grade level.
