The Active Pain Management (AMP) Physical Therapist (PT) position primary duties are to provide pain services as an integrated part of the Pain Clinic and in support of the Pain Management Team. Clinical care should be provided through a combination of virtual/telehealth and in-person services as part of an interprofessional specialty pain care team in the Biopsychosocial Model of Pain Care and VA Stepped Care Model for Pain Management.
Summary

Spends at least 50% of clinical time providing AMP groups in VA Facility through virtual/telehealth modalities (e.g., VVC) or in-person.
Demonstrates a full professional and current understanding of the theories of physical therapy treatment and their proper application, particularly those specialized techniques related to complex chronic pain problems.
Demonstrates expertise in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating treatment plans for adult patients with complex pain problems. As part of the pain team, provides feedback and coordinates care with associated health care team members.
Utilizes evaluation data to plan and implement comprehensive patient treatment, involving patient in the goals setting and treatment processes as feasible. Modifies treatment plan according to evaluative findings to meet short- and long-term goals.
Participates in program development activities related to AMP, including data collection/management, policy development/adherence, and documentation.
Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, as well as pain committee meetings, as indicated by Pain Clinic leadership, as well as section and service leadership.
Provides clinical outcome measures to all AMP participants as instructed and assists with ensuring that information is shared as indicated
Demonstrates ability to provide didactics/lectures to medical staff within the area of pain management, specifically pain-focused physical therapy interventions.
Assists in the training and supervision of professional and technical level students providing lectures and demonstrations related to areas of expertise.
Provides input into student's performance evaluations. s measures to all AMP participants as instructed and assists with ensuring that information is shared as indicated
Work Schedule: 8:00am- 4:30pm Days of work and tour may vary; Weekend work is required
Designated and/or random drug testing may be required
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education and experience. The individual must meet at least one of the education/experience requirements below:
1) Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy AND five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist.
2) Master's degree in Physical Therapy AND two (2) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist.
3) Doctorate degree in physical therapy.
NOTE: Individuals must be a graduate of a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited college or university. The CAPTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to accredit entry-level physical therapy programs. Verification of accredited programs may be obtained from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) at www.apta.org.
Licensure. Individuals hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Non-licensed PTs, who otherwise meet the basic requirements in this standard, may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate PT at the GS-11 grade level under the authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 (a)(1)(D) for a period not-to-exceed two years from the date of employment on the condition that such PT provide care only under the supervision of a PT who is licensed. Failure to obtain licensure during that period is justification for termination of the temporary appointment.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
GS-12: In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Able to meet physical demands of the position, which includes: heavy lifting, 50 pounds and over; moderate carrying, 15-49 pounds, pushing up to fours hours; reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, good dexterity( both hands required); prolonged walking, prolonged standing; repeated bending, pushing, pulling, an twisting; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously ; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing ( aid permitted); speed in working; and emotional stability. English Language Proficiency. Therapist must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S. 7402 (d), and 7407 (d). While performing duties of this job, the therapist is frequently required to stand, walk, bend and reach. Must be able to lift and/or move 50 pounds. Requires long periods of standing wearing gloves, mask, gown and eye shields during specific procedures. They must have full manual dexterity and keyboarding skills. Must be able to view and read information on computer screens.
