Help
  • Serves as the specialist with the program responsibility in one or more of the following areas Urban and Community Forestry.
  • Formulates plans, policies, and objectives and coordinates or develops annual and long-term management programs with the immediate supervisor.
  • Develops communication materials to be presented to diverse audiences.
  • Promotes studies and the development of data that help identify high potential program delivery areas and better focus program investments.
  • Recommends modifications to existing program direction as required.
  • Coordinates assigned program planning activities by managing and vetting the final project selection process.
  • Reviews all long- range and short-range action plans to ensure consistency with natural resources program strategies and priorities.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement:

GS 0401-13:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

GS 1301-13:
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience, or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-13: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is defined as majority of the following: planning and evaluating assignments related to natural resource management; providing technical advice and guidance on natural resource management activities to help ensure resources are sustainably managed in accordance with science, best practices, and applicable federal and state natural resource laws; developing and maintaining relationships with federal, state, or local agency personnel and other program delivery partners to strategically focus resources to address critical and emerging issues; overseeing study projects to develop guidelines, standards, and procedures for analyzing public needs, demands, and resource capabilities to improve projects and/or maintain and restore program priorities as they relate to Urban and Community Forestry.




Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
