Duties

Help
  • Apply instructional design theories, practice, and methods in the course development and revision processes to support resident, distance, and blended courses.
  • Design and build courses in collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Promote and train faculty to utilize evidenced-based instructional and course design principles.
  • Monitor developments in andragogy, and effective practices in curriculum design and delivery.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators to align outcomes, assessments, and activities.
  • Assist SMEs in the completion of curriculum maps.
  • Facilitate the design of rubrics that align with learning outcomes.
  • Build courses in the learning management system and design policies for teaching within the learning management system.
  • Create engaging education content using current technologies to include: highlight videos, course materials, quick reference guides, and other training materials.
  • Ensure timely response to end-user inquiries and adjustments to learning materials as needed.
  • Conduct presentations for various groups including leadership.
  • Evaluate existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
  • Supervise a team of instructional systems specialists, information technologists, and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Assist with accreditation activities.
  • Participate in occasional institutional site visits and academic conferences.
  • Lead the multi-day New Faculty Development program by planning session content, developing associated materials, coordinating logistical support, and synchronizing outcomes with stakeholders.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate faculty development programs on topics related to curriculum design, instructional strategies, educational technology, and student assessment.
  • Conduct research and internal/external service.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated based on the criteria listed below by a panel of subject matter experts appointed with the purpose of identifying the best qualified candidates.

The Professor of Educational Methodology supports program offerings across a variety of modalities including resident, blended, distance, and synchronous and asynchronous content delivery. The Professor of Educational Methodology works directly and collaboratively with program directors and staff, instructors, faculty and subject matter experts to research, plan, design, develop, evaluate, and revise courses and training materials. The Professor of Educational Methodology will emphasize best practices in instructional design and effective use of technology for teaching and learning, including accessible and inclusive design principles.

- Earned graduate degree from an accredited institution in a discipline relevant to education, such as higher education, curriculum and instruction, instructional technology, or educational psychology. While a terminal degree is preferred, candidates within six months of completing a Ph.D. or Ed.D. are encouraged to apply.

- Evidence of experience designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating faculty development programs at the institutional level.

- Ability to model and teach best practices in instruction with an emphasis on the purposeful use of educational technology.

- Ability to produce high-quality research, writing, and presentations related to the scholarship of teaching and learning that bridges the gap between theory and practice.

- Experience in research methodology (to include quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research), psychometrics, and data visualization is valued.

- Strong interpersonal, written communication, and oral communication skills in complex, dynamic, and interdisciplinary environments.

- Ability to work collegially with diverse (military, civilian, international) graduate students, faculty, staff, and administrators and foster connections with networks external to the institution.

- Evidence of experience supervising highly qualified and distributed teams.

Job Requirements:
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in instructional technology, education, information technology, curriculum design, higher education leadership, or adult learning; Ph.D. preferred.

- Minimum 5 years of experience in higher education. Teaching experience is preferred.

- At least 5 years of experience in instructional technology, education, information technology, information sciences, course design, curriculum design, e-learning, or curriculum design.

- Experience interacting with multi-disciplinary faculty and stakeholders at the college level.

- Experience with technologies like Canvas, Turnitin, Peerceptiv, Camtasia, SharePoint, and other Office 365 applications.

- Comprehensive knowledge of current instructional theories and principles applicable to both online and instructor-led programs face-to-face instruction.

- Experience with adult learning theories, interactive training, e-learning design principles, and on demand instruction and evaluation methods.
