Duties

Help
  • Serves as the District fishery and pallid sturgeon expert with responsibility for leading pallid sturgeon population monitoring for the Missouri River Recovery Program.
  • Develops and conducts short-and long-term investigations and experiments to determine impact of projects on native Missouri River fish and threatened and endangered species.
  • Maintains liaison with nationally known experts in the field of pallid sturgeon recovery and reservoir and river investigations to obtain technical data for similar Corps studies and to provide them with results of Corps investigations.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports outlining results of impact of projects on the pallid sturgeon and other native fish and makes recommendations concerning action to be taken immediately or in the future.
  • Prepares pallid sturgeon survey reports, writes fishery design memoranda and conducts coordination with Federal and state fish and wildlife agencies to provide technical data for the above reports.
  • Plans and executes, in collaboration with other District elements, programs for the protection, preservation and enhancement of fish and wildlife resources during planning, design, construction and operation of water resource projects.
  • Reviews environmental assessment and impact studies in regard to existing and proposed projects in collaboration with other disciplines.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Individual Occupational Requirement:
A
. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields, or excess course work (beyond the required 6 semester hours) in aquatic subjects.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Minimum Qualification:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes working directly with a variety of fish monitoring techniques and multi-faceted fisheries programs.
