Help

  • Serves as a senior adviser providing advice and assistance to the Office of information Technology and the SEC leadership.
  • Provides technical expertise in one or more of the IT areas of architecture, cloud-based collaboration applications, VoIP technologies, video conferencing performance monitoring, telecommunication infrastructure applications, capacity planning, software, hardware, AV management, systems analysis, security, internet, systems administration, websites, and/or customer support.
  • Performs a broad range of assignments as the functional expert in assigned areas of responsibility. Participates with decision makers in setting program goals and establishing priorities to support the SEC information technology mission.
  • Monitors management of quality determines need for changes and originates the development of program improvements, and briefs senior management on program status.
  • Receives and analyzes new information management requirements from SEC staff, develops new information technology techniques, input to budget process, establishes criteria, and makes recommendations when procedures/guidelines do not exist for assigned area of responsibility which impacts Headquarters/ region-wide implementation, consolidation, and continuing IT program management.
  • Develops detailed plans and directs or conducts comprehensive IT studies dealing with process measurement, methods and procedures, and/or benchmarking, to identify problems and propose solutions to improve operations.
  • Studies and compares current and emerging information systems management tools and technology applicable to SEC information technology operations, policies, and processes.
  • Makes recommendations pertaining to new IT capabilities for assigned area of responsibility that will sustain and/or enhance the SEC's information technology program and operations.

Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-13 level.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Reviewing work to ensure it is in line with established standards or to identify deficiencies (Attention to Detail); collaborating with customers to identify their information technology needs or to resolve their hardware and software problems (Customer service); explaining technical information orally to non-technical audiences (Oral Communication); and evaluating alternatives to recommend solutions to hardware or software problems (Problem Solving).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement.
SK-14: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-13 level: Working as a product owner/project manager responsible for design, development, deployment and operations of major IT Systems; developing, diagnosing and operating computer systems and cloud technologies; and executing quantitative analysis and data metrics.
