Help
  • Independently operate delivery vehicles in order to deliver materials to multiple various locations.
  • Determine manner and sequence of loading to achieve balance and protection for fragile items.
  • Use safe driving procedures and precautions necessary in order to avoid injury to self and others while driving delivery vehicles.
  • Read maps to determine shortest and safest route.
  • Perform operator maintenance services (i.e. checking fuel, oil, and other fluid levels, putting air in vehicle tires, etc.)
  • Inspect vehicles before driving to ensure the vehicle is in proper working condition.
  • Complete assigned tasks according to written and oral instructions.

  • Physical - Effort: Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
  • Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
  • Working Conditions: Required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather while loading and unloading vehicles.

Qualifications

To qualify for the PPW - Motor Vehicle Operator - Messenger, KX-5703-5, you must meet the following requirements:

  • driving delivery vehicles and,
  • handling weights and loads in order to lift and move delivery items, and
  • maintain deliveries or other records
Applicants must meet SCREEN OUT/JOB ELEMENT: Ability to do the work of a PPW Motor Vehicle Operator, Messenger without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) to be considered eligible for the position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen out element for this position is:
  • Ability to do the work of the PPW (Motor Vehicle Operator), Messenger without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT)
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Note 1: The selectee is required to operate government-owned or leased motor vehicles, in the performance of duties; therefore, a valid state driver's license is required. Applicants must submit a copy of their valid driver's license issued by a U.S. city or state to be considered for this position. Failure to submit such valid license will result in loss of consideration for this position. Additionally, the selectee must maintain a valid city or state driver's license in order to continue in this position. Note 2: The selectee must not have any driving violations against his/her driving record within the seven-year period immediately preceding submission of application. Note 3: The selectee(s) for this position is required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather while loading and unloading delivery vehicles. Additionally, the selectee(s) of this position will drive in various traffic conditions and is exposed to the possibility of accidents and injury.

Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Public Trust Clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.
