Duties

Help
  • Maintain contact with executives and officials both within and outside the Department, concerning policies and programs relative to the Department's research, economics, and education mission areas.
  • Assist with and advises on the implementation of the United States Farm Bill.
  • Provide liaison between the Under Secretary, Deputy Under Secretary, REE Chief of Staff, the mission area management team, and other managers to identify issues or problems for management consideration.
  • Provide administrative support for travel, event planning, scheduling, correspondence, purchasing, financial management, call in-take, presentations, and information technology.
  • Provide guidance and instructions, ensuring office procedures are well defined and easily understood, and promptly addressing all staff training needs.
  • Prepare written and verbal responses to inquiries from Congressional Offices, Federal agencies, State and local governments.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

GS-11

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience planning events, scheduling travel, or drafting correspondence; determining the status of significant issues for use in meetings; and addressing informational needs of management and staff in their decision-making processes.
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
OR
A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience composing or issuing organization's reports; and participating in developing policy for a variety of programs; monitoring the implementation of the United States Farm Bill and overseeing effective administrative operations in support of organization programs.

Specialized Experience:
Specialized experience is experience related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-13 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12 which is related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience developing program documentation and justification for major initiatives; implementing the United States Farm Bill and writing analytic reports and testimonies for congressional and administration bodies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
