Summary

Within ORF, the Division of Facilities Operations and Maintenance (DFOM) oversees the operations, maintenance, repair, and renovation of all NIH facilities and utility systems, and performs general facility management for all NIH real property. The division has responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of NIH leased and owned real property; a comprehensive facility management program; a predictive, preventive, and emergency maintenance program.

Duties

Help

As a Facility Operations Specialist you will:

  • Maintain, repair, or modify facilities by upgrading or replacing utility systems; inspecting physical structures, utilities, roadways, and surrounding grounds.
  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule the maintenance, repair, rehabilitation and operation of the physical facilities, building systems, and roads and grounds at NIH facilities.
  • Conduct surveys, coordinate the location of furniture, equipment, materials, chemical solvents, and flammable materials, and prepare building layouts to accommodate mission needs.
  • Assist in conducting periodic inspections.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Facility Operations Specialist, GS-1640 at the GS-09 level, you must have:

A. completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.B. or J.D., if related. Related degrees include engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration; OR

B. 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: participating in a preventive maintenance program for building systems; communicating with management on facility and construction matters; compiling technical and administrative information for reports; OR

C. a combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

  • 4. Knowledge of operating and testing requirements for facility equipment, machinery, tools, and materials.
