Duties

Help

  • Serves as Chief of the PRB. Determines requirements for clinical materials and investigates, reviews, evaluates, and approves proposed projects and assigns tasks to the staff
  • Supervises and furnishes policy and procedural guidance to staff; sets priorities including establishing short and long-range plans; prepares schedules for completion of work, evaluates performance of subordinates; gives advice, counsel or instructions on matters related to strategic planning, evaluation, science policy analysis, and administrative matters
  • Prepares research proposals which are submitted to the Associate Director, DTP, and the Director, DCTD
  • Ensures the supply of bulk drugs that are used to prepare the final dosage forms for preclinical toxicology studies and human clinical trials
  • Manages the technical and scientific aspects of large-scale chemical and drug preparation contracts for anti-cancer drugs
  • Coordinates with DCTD clinical program leaders to evaluate progress of clinical and project programs need for drug supplies
  • Prepares scientific reviews of accomplishments and their implications for presentations to scientific advisors and reviewers or for publications
  • Serves as the final reviewer of analytical assay and quality control documents to ensure product quality and stability
  • Participates in symposia and discussions of cancer research topics with national and international leaders in the field.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-15 level, if you meet the following requirements:

Educational Requirement:
In order to qualify for a Supervisory Chemist, GS-1320 position, you must have completed the requirements for a bachelor's or graduate or higher degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics OR a combination of education and experience course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Additional Specialized Experience:
In addition, in order to qualify for a Supervisory Chemist position, at the GS-15 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: ensuring supply of bulk drugs used to prepare final dosage forms for toxicology studies; evaluating chemical and drug preparation contracts for drugs; evaluating progress of clinical program needs for drug supplies; reviewing analytical assay and quality control documents to ensure product quality; and participating in symposia and discussions of research topics.
