Duties

Help

Food Service Worker (60% of duty time):

  • Assembles fresh fruit or green salads in quantity using prepared ingredients and served into standard serving sizes.
  • Makes cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients.
  • Sets up lines and side service stand with hot and cold food items.
  • Prepares items such as wings, chicken tenders, fries and mozzarella sticks.
  • Sorts, washes, peels and cuts fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring or breading; weighs, measures and assembles ingredients for regular menu items; portions foods for distribution and food service, and covers, dates and stores leftovers according to established procedures.
  • Breaks down and cleans area when food service is complete.
  • Scrapes, soaks, scours and scrubs bowls, pots and pans.
  • Sets up napkins, condiments and cold menu items (e.g., salad, dessert, bread and cold beverages) on a serving line.
  • Removes dishes and trays from tables.
  • Operates, breaks down and cleans all electrical equipment for food preparation.
  • Cleans kitchen equipment (e.g., worktables, sinks and refrigerators).
  • Loads and operates dishwashers, stores clean dishes, glasses and silverware.
  • Washes tables and counters, sweeps and mops kitchen floors, cleans windows, washes walls and cleans and sanitizes trashcans.
  • Performs heavy duty cleaning tasks such as ceilings, exhaust hoods, under and behind kitchen equipment, washes floors and walls, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, sanitizes garbage cans.
  • Washes and cleans kitchen equipment.
  • Sets up and operates dishwashers, performs preventive maintenance and cleaning.
  • Rotates beer kegs and ensures keg cooler is maintained.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Continuous standing, walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing,
    pulling and bending.
  • May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment.

Qualifying Experience:
Food Service Worker:

  • Ability to use hand tools for cleaning, and operate simple machines.
  • Skill in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgement in sequencing tasks.
  • Knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food, and for cleaning equipment and work area.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
