Summary

This position is located in Region 6, at the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area in Hood River, OR.

The incumbent serves as a project manager or planning team member on a variety of projects related to scenery management, environmental planning and design, interpretive planning, dispersed and developed recreation, special uses and scenic byways.

Duties

Help
  • Duties listed are at full performance level.
  • Provides technical assistance to senior staff and other resource area staff throughout the project planning process.
  • Performs a variety of duties in support of the unit's recreation planning, design, and construction programs. Independently performs smaller to moderately complex, repetitive assignments.
  • Conduct field reviews/site visits to collect data for site inventories and analysis needed for project development and design.
  • Prepare preliminary technical reports and design narratives for potential recreation sites for review by senior landscape architects.
  • Assist senior landscape architect in the development and production of designs, plans, details, and specifications of more complex recreation sites.
  • Conduct field reviews/site visits to collect data for site inventories and analysis needed for project development and design.
  • Utilizes sketches and computer-assisted software to create preliminary reports, conceptual plans, and construction documents for a variety of outdoor recreation and related projects (trails, campgrounds, visitor centers, day use areas, etc.)

Basic Requirement:
GS-0807:
Degree: landscape architecture or landscape design. Note: Successful completion of a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture in an accredited college or university is qualifying for GS-7.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- for each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had 1 year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-07:
You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as meeting one or more of the following: Assisted in the development and production of landscape architecture plans; Prepared preliminary technical reports for existing or potential projects for review by others; Used a variety of computer software to prepare site inventories, analyses, and preliminary design concepts
OR
One year of graduate level education in landscape architecture or landscape design.
OR
Superior Academic Achievement (to determine if you are eligible, go to: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp).
OR
Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience.

For the GS-09: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as meeting one or more of the following: Participated in site survey, inventories, analysis, and design at conceptual, site and/or master plan level; Gathered, reviewed, analyzed data needed to synthesize and integrate recreation and other natural resource information; Communicated technical information and creative design through both hand and digital forms of graphic communication, including various computer-aided landscape architecture and visualization software, such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, ArcGIS or similar.
OR
A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., in landscape architecture and/or landscape design.
OR
An appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level) directly related to the position being filled.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed.
