Duties

Help

As a Bank Examiner (Climate Risk), with emphasis on Physical Risk (including natural catastrophes such as floods and hurricanes and chronic shifts such as sea level rise and drought), you will:

  • Identify and resolve complex problems or issues that generally cross organizational, functional, or disciplinary boundaries, and that impact the accomplishment of both short- and long- range strategic agency objectives especially focused on compliance supervision activities and risk mitigation.
  • Enhance the OCC's understanding on the financial impacts on the economy and regulated financial institutions from physical risks.
  • Formulate and implement strategies to enhance the OCC's analytical capability regarding physical risks.
  • Provide senior-level counsel and guidance on compliance supervision within the Office of Climate Risk to senior management, examiners-in-charge, and/or to other OCC officials as appropriate.
  • Interact regularly with senior managers and peers, both within and external to the agency, other federal financial regulators, and/or financial institution representatives involving complex or technically detailed issues requiring negotiation, formal presentations, and/or persuasion to achieve resolution consistent with the OCC's goals and priorities.
  • Serve as a senior professional staff member with responsibility for sharing knowledge/expertise and providing guidance to others.
  • Maintain accountability for providing senior-level guidance and input to influence and inform executive/managerial decision-making in compliance supervision matters.
  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve a range and variety of significant problems or issues related to compliance supervision which may affect unit or broader agency results.
  • Maintain responsibility for defining and assessing the implications of various alternative responses or recommendations across functional and/or organizational boundaries.

  • File an OCC Financial Disclosure Form.
  • Complete a financial disclosure review and resolve any ethics issues.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the NB-V band level or GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. For this announcement, physical climate risk includes natural catastrophes such as floods and hurricanes and chronic shifts such as sea level rise and drought, and financial institutions include banks and thrifts, insurance companies, asset managers, investment managers, and asset owners. Examples of specialized experience for this position include:

  • Evaluating, analyzing, planning, scheduling, and monitoring financial institutions' physical climate risk; or,
  • Managing or leading teams engaged in financial institutions' emerging risks related to physical climate risk or,
  • Serving as an advisor or consultant to management on financial institutions' emerging risks related to physical climate risk, supervisory problems, issues, and other related technical matters; or,
  • Applying or analyzing physical climate risks to the financial services sector, banking, or financial regulatory framework.

The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
