As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-5/8/10, you will perform a full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of assemblies, system, and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.
Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft to include pre-inspection, daily inspection, pre- and post-flight inspections and such special inspections as required, including fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, an inspection of onboard emergency equipment.
Conduct checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft.
Perform the full range of repair and testing of an aircraft system, assemblies, and surfaces.
Use a variety of methods involving test equipment, visual checks and instruments, diagnose and identify problem areas and determine the extent of repairs required.
Remove components and assemblies, repair or replace defective parts and components and reassemble repaired items into an aircraft.
Accomplish adjustments to related systems which may be affected by repairs.
Service aircraft with oil, de-icing fluid, fuel, and hydraulic fluid.
Inspect for conditions such as oil, fuel, and hydraulic leak, cut lines, tires and loose panels.
Perform the additional duty of firefighting.
Perform the additional duty of aircraft crash/rescue.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence,
The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Enlisted - May not exceed the rank of 1SG.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that has provided you with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications; and experience using hand tools and test equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes at least 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. WG-08 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes at least 12 months experience or training in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs; experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance; experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. WG-05 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes at least 6 months experience or training in the use of common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision; and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.
