Duties

Help

As a Digital Content Producer within the Communications and Marketing Department, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the selectee will produce and facilitate the creation of multimedia assets - original video and animations and other media - to generate positive impressions and engaging interactions for the museum, its exhibitions and public programs, conservation and collections management across its digital media networks including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and Hirshhorn Eye visitors guide.

Typical Duties includes:

  • Creates assets for paid, earned, and owned campaign collateral and sponsored content as needed, and manages content review, editing, and approval processes.
  • Consults with internal teams to adapt exhibition- and program-related content for digital platforms and seamless integration of social media into upcoming exhibitions.
  • Ensures overall frequency of digital media postings is consistent and appropriate, and that all social media, web, and email content is in line with Museum standards and goals.
  • Applies exceptional editorial judgement and creativity to produce high-quality, impactful content while following all established editorial procedures, protocols, and guidelines for publishing content suitable for the Museum’s diverse, online audiences.

Individual Occupational Requirements

Education

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment.

Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.

Specialized Experience: Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.

In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system.  For this position Specialized experience is defined as creating digital assets for campaign collateral and sponsored content; handling content review, editing, and approval processes; consulting with internal teams to adapt content for digital platforms; managing an organization’s digital content publication calendar; and monitoring all established editorial procedures, protocols, and guidelines for publishing content suitable for a museum or cultural organization’s diverse, online audiences..

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

Or Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related.

  • Skill with photo and video editing (Adobe Creative Suites, Canva, Pixelmator, Photoshop).

Applicants who meet or exceed minimum qualifications will be assigned to one of three category groups based on job-related criteria:

  • Best Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and excels in most of the job related competencies above.
  • Better Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and satisfies most of the job related competencies above.
  • Good Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements, but does not satisfy most of the job related competencies above to a substantive degree.

This category rating process does not add veterans' preference points or apply the "rule of three", but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category.
