As a WELDER (TITLE 32), WG-3703-5/8/10, you will perform a variety of welding in support of maintenance activities.
Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
Use templates, jigs, blueprints, and other guides to repair, modify, or fabricate metal items including repair of light or intricately made mechanical parts, which must fit in assemblies where close tolerances are required.
Read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
Lay out, position, and clamp work; select type of rod and size of tip to accomplish weld.
Manually maintain proper speed, flame motion, tip and angle, and position of the welding flame to produce desired pattern.
Perform welding duties using electric, acetylene, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes, pre-heating, brazing, head welding, tack welding, flame cutting, pressure welding, and heat treating.
Make numerous types of joints using flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions on light and heavy equipment such as axles, frames, gun mounts and components, carriers, tanks, metal decks constructed of a variety of weldable metals.
Weld or reinforce heavy armor plate.
Perform precision welding on jigs, dies, engineering and automotive equipment.
Braze dissimilar metals; flame cuts metal to size for fabrication, using regular welding equipment.
Utilize basic sheet metal tools and equipment such as a bender, press, roller, shear, and band saw to repair and/or fabricate a variety of equipment air conditioning and heater duct units, storage cabinets, and components for armored personnel carriers.

Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence,
The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Enlisted ONLY
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that has provided you with the basic knowledge of welding processes; knowledge of technical orders, blueprints and specifications.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level MUST possess at least 18 months experience or training demonstrating the application of a variety of electric resistance welding processes and equipment; experience in using accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes to weld all types of commonly used metals in various shapes, sizes and thicknesses; experience using a wider range of metal welding processes to make more difficult welds meeting close tolerance, strength and other requirements (these welds may be in hard to reach places); experience which allows the welder to devise special jigs and fixtures to hold the parts to be welded; experience which demonstrates knowledge of several related trade procedures; experience which enables the lay out and planning of work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications and work orders. WG-8 Level MUST possess at least 12 months experience or training in applying a variety of electric resistance welding methods and equipment, or one or more manual weld process, to carry out standard weld operations; experience determining the welding techniques and machine settings to be used, to assemble and set up the parts to be welded (using jigs and fixtures), and make required welds following guides and oral or written instructions from the supervisor; experience welding to meet specifications and to assure proper penetration and freedom from pockets, scales and other defects. WG-5 Level MUST possess at least 6 months experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use common hand tools and make repetitive repairs; must have basic knowledge of the type of work performed by the occupational series; provide assistance to the journeyman by performing the simpler and routine duties of the trade.
