The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.

-Performs a variety of administrative tasks using an automated system which involves: assigning, maintaining, monitoring, or updating work status and inventory records; ordering research; acknowledging correspondence; maintaining, updating and initiating personnel records; timekeeping; and performing other support activity.

-Identifies and reviews Forms W-2 attached to Forms 1040EZ and 1040PC for conditions meeting Criminal Investigation criteria and code the returns appropriately.

-Prepares and maintains regular production/inventory reports/attendance records using established formats and sources of data applicable to the program, functional, or organizational reporting requirements.

-Screens documents, forms, and letters addressed or routed to various offices; researches correspondence not addressed to specific functional areas. Screens material initially identified as "unable to route" to determine

-Receives, opens, sorts, processes and distributes both incoming and outgoing mail and products; routes mail and products to various points within and outside the organization.

  • If you are in a telework eligible position, you may be directed to temporarily telework on a full-time basis due to COVID 19. Employees must be within a 200-mile radius of their official assigned post-of-duty (POD) while in a telework status. Once normal operations resume, employees may be directed back to the office to perform the duties of their position. Telework eligibility does not guarantee telework; employees must meet and sustain IRS telework eligibility requirements and supervisor's approval to participate in the IRS Telework Program. As a reminder - If you are selected for a position, you are responsible for reporting to your designated POD (location) on the negotiated start date or as directed by management.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: GS-04 To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet the basic requirements below. One (1) year or twelve (12 months) of general experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS -03) in the Federal government. General experience - Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience.

OR
Two (2) years of education above the high school level (education may have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school. Note: One full year of academic study is defined as 30 semester hours/45 quarter hours in an accredited junior college, college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school equaling 720 hours.

OR
An equivalent amount of combined education and experience. The equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total requirements.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-05 To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet the basic requirements below. One year or twelve (12) months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Specialized experience is administrative, typing or other work that indicates knowledge of the procedures and technique involved in carrying out the work of an organization and involves application of procedures and practices within the framework of established guidelines. Examples of General Clerical experience may be; A clerk, secretary, administrative assistant, maintaining accounting files, Accounts Receivable/payable filing clerk, data entry clerk, or other positions that included application of typing and/or telephone skills as a significant part of the work.

OR
A Bachelors degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.

OR
An equivalent amount of combined education and experience. Only education in excess of 60 semester hours, 90 quarter hours or 1440 classroom hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement for the GS-5 level. For example, one full year of academic study (30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or 720 formal classroom hours) beyond the second year is equal to 6 months of specialized experience. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, college or university.

AND

TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT: By the closing date (or if this is an open continuous announcement, by the cut-off date) specified in this job announcement, current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment. For this requirement, a competitive appointment is one where you applied to and were appointed from an announcement open to "All US Citizens".

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience.
