Help

The psychology technician will be skilled and experienced in the administration, scoring, summarization, and interpretation of a full range of diagnostic neuropsychological, intelligence, and psychological assessment instruments (e.g., The Wechsler Memory Scale-IV, the California Verbal learning Test-II, the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-IV, Delis-Kaplan Executive Functions Scale, the Boston Naming Test, the Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination, the Halstead-Reitan Battery, the Mattis Dementia Rating Scale, the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Beck Depression lnventory-2, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory). He/she will be a skilled administrator of structured interviews with a variety of patient populations, including those with neurologic and/or psychological disorders. He/she will be skilled in the recording of detailed behavioral observations, and the writing of patient progress notes and diagnostic reports.

He/she will provide neuropsychological testing services in collaboration with neuropsychologists for a host of patient care providers, including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, SCIU, Medicine, Rehabilitation, and Consult-Liaison Services. The psychology technicians' role may include interviewing the patients and their families, and the administration and scoring of a wide range of neuropsychological and psychological tests and personality scales. He/she will chart in the patients' medical records both inpatient and outpatient contacts from these services, and, when requested to do so, he/she will prepare portions of an interpretive report (e.g., behavioral observations) under the supervision of the Program Lead or his/her designee.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/11/2022.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have One full year of graduate level education.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Preferred Experience/Education:
Bachelor's degree
Admin/scoring of neuropsychological and psychological assessment instruments
Experience with EMR/CPRS documentation and consult management
Experience with components of neuropsychological reporting (behavioral observations, test result summarizations)


Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although the stress involved in continually working with persons in emotional and physical distress and who may be uncooperative, poorly motivated, obstreperous, or possibly assaultive, makes this position appreciably more demanding than most sedentary lines of employment.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
