Duties

Help
  • Develop and improve services aimed at Child Welfare and Family services on the reservation.
  • Receive child neglect, sexual/physical abuse complaints, conduct investigations through home visits, personal interview with child and/or parent, and may be summed to testify in Tribal courts.
  • Serve on a Child Protection team and assigned to an on-call rotation list.
  • Provide family welfare services, and counseling to unmarried parents and families in the community.
  • Monitor and recommend the release of funds from IIM accounts for minors, guardians, foster parents, etc.

Qualifications

This is an open continuous vacancy announcement and applications will be referred when vacancies occur. This announcement is intended as a mechanism of providing consideration for the greatest number of potential candidates. Basic Requirement (for all grades):

Degree in Social Work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for a Master's Degree in Social Work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. MASTER'S DEGREE WITH PRACTICUM: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a Master's Degree in Social Work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9.

GS-9: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level. Examples of specialized experience include knowledge and skill involving cases of child neglect, sexual abuse and/or physical abuse complaints as well as experience conducting investigations through home visitation and personal interviews with child/parents; providing counseling to unmarried parent(s) and also providing family welfare services; and establishing a therapeutic relationship for clientele.

Education: I have successfully completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's Degree in Social Work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

GS-11: In addition to the Basic Requirement, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level. Examples of specialized experience demonstrates knowledge and skill in a Bureau's Social Service Program or comparable organization, assisting with the development and improvement of services aimed at Child Welfare and Family Services; receiving cases of child neglect, sexual abuse and physical abuse complaints which included responsibility for conducting investigations through home visitation and personal interviews with child/parents; serving as a Child Protection Team case manager of assigned cases, recruiting foster parents, developing, evaluating, training and recommending approval based on Tribal/State standards; providing counseling to unmarried parent(s) and also providing family welfare services; and/or establishing a therapeutic relationship with clientele.

Education: Completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree that included a major field of study in Social Work.

At the discretion of the Agency Superintendent, you may qualify for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with agency policy.
