  • Incumbent is required to wear a uniform and comply with grooming standards. The incumbent will be required to wear protective clothing such as a ballistic vest, helmet, etc.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain current certification for CPR and First Aid.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Screening and/or inspecting personal and commercial vehicles requesting installation access; 2) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification/credentials; 3) Patrolling buildings or perimeters for suspicious activity; and 4) Maintaining desk logs, desk journals, and pass-down logbooks to document security events.

GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience performing administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information, AND I have six months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and techniques

GS-03: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience that includes experience in administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Must successfully pass (no felony convictions) an initial criminal background check and annual review.

Required to wear a uniform and comply with grooming standards. The incumbent will be required to wear protective clothing such as a ballistic vest. helmet.etc.

Must pass periodic proficiency, examinations in the use of firearms, expandable baton and the application of defensive spray.

Required to render appropriate honors (salute) while manning ECPs.

Be able to discern colors, contrast, and depth IAW OPM standards.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This work requires on a regular and recurring basis, considerable and/or strenuous physical exertion such as lifting/dragging heavy objects over 50 lbs., crouching or crawling in restrictive areas during inspection activities, defending oneself and others during a physical attack. Required to successfully complete a periodic physical abilities test and must routinely participate in defense tactics, handcuffing and firearms qualification requiring physical stamina and agility.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed for the most part outdoors in the heat, cold, rain and wind during the hours of daylight and darkness; with work in or under extremely dangerous conditions. the work environment regularly involves high risk with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which requires a range of safety and other precautions. The incumbent may also work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present.

Education

In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-04:
Successful completion of at least two full academic years of education above high school
OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience

GS-03:
Successful completion of at least one full academic year of education above high school
