Conduct laboratory experiments in support of general chemistry, advanced chemistry, life science, and/or chemical engineering courses or academic research.
Provide technical assistance to staff, faculty, and/or students in the use of laboratory equipment.
Ensure that laboratories, prep rooms, or storage areas are maintained in a safe manner.
Maintain adequate stock levels of chemicals or equipment for support of chemistry and/or life science laboratory programs.
Propose new laboratory experiments and/or classroom demonstrations to course directors.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 pounds in the regular performance of duties.
Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) providing support to professional staff in a laboratory and/or classroom setting; 2) collecting data from laboratory and/or classroom experiments for use in research projects; and 3) utilizing laboratory equipment to conduct routine experiments and/or classroom demonstrations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
GS-08:

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
