Duties

Help
  • Conduct laboratory experiments in support of general chemistry, advanced chemistry, life science, and/or chemical engineering courses or academic research.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff, faculty, and/or students in the use of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure that laboratories, prep rooms, or storage areas are maintained in a safe manner.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of chemicals or equipment for support of chemistry and/or life science laboratory programs.
  • Propose new laboratory experiments and/or classroom demonstrations to course directors.

  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 pounds in the regular performance of duties.

GS-07:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) providing support to professional staff in a laboratory and/or classroom setting; 2) collecting data from laboratory and/or classroom experiments for use in research projects; and 3) utilizing laboratory equipment to conduct routine experiments and/or classroom demonstrations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

GS-08:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) assisting in planning and/or conducting laboratory experiments or projects in support of academic research or chemistry and/or life science courses; 2) ensuring laboratory and/or classroom materials needed for projects are available; 3) utilizing a full range of laboratory equipment; 4) checking laboratory equipment for safety and/or serviceability; and 5) collecting data from laboratory and/or classroom experiments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

GS-09:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) planning and/or conducting laboratory experiments and projects in support of academic research or chemistry and/or life science courses; 2) ensuring all laboratory and/or classroom materials needed for projects are available; 3) utilizing a full range of laboratory equipment to include assembling special apparatus; 4) checking laboratory equipment for safety and serviceability; and 5) analyzing data collected from laboratory and/or classroom experiments for use by professional or scientific personnel in research projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
