Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-14. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

As an IT Specialist (APPSW), you will:
- Serve as a Senior Applications Software Engineer who is responsible for the development and evolution of information software engineering methodology, techniques, and procedures.
- Monitor and act as a technical expert for the coordination and integration of new technology and/or implementation for assigned/initiated automation and computer technology needs, systems, or equipment.
- Develop advanced technologies and integrate new processes, techniques, and procedures to solve problems and address technical requirements at the program, organizational, and departmental level.
- Oversee, evaluate, and support the documentation, validation, assessment, and authorization processes necessary to assure that existing and new information technology (IT) systems meet the organization's cybersecurity and risk requirements.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience:
For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience developing IT related projects, procedures, or strategies to ensure the optimization and integration of operating environments and leading installation or implementation of operating systems department-wide.

An example of such experience may include:
Experience in the project management, implementation, analysis, development, customization or testing of IT Solutions at an enterprise level.

For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience participating with senior IT specialists in the installation or implementation of operating systems within a customer organization.

An example of such experience may include:
Experience in designing, testing, or supporting IT application software to meet the business needs of an organization.

Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • This is a remote position, in which you may reside and work at a location anywhere in the United States or US territories beyond the local commuting area of the employing organization's worksite of Washington, DC.
  • Pay will be determined based on the duty location of the position. Remote employees will receive the locality rate associated with the location of their remote worksite.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
