Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is located with Fort Riley Directorate of Emergency Services.

A Special Salary Rate is authorized for DA Police Officers assigned to Fort Riley, KS.

Duties

Help
  • Responsible for facilitating the pick up or delivery of personnel who are considered an escape risk to or from civilian and military law enforcement agencies.
  • Facilitates the serving of subpoenas, summons, arrest warrants, and other court-related documents on the installation.
  • Teach Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) or Gang Resistance Education And Training (GREAT) in elementary and middle schools.
  • Responsible for the apprehension of military personnel who are deserters or AWOL.

  • Appointment is subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • The wearing of uniforms is required and the employee may be required to wear protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shield, and body armor.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. Incumbent is subject to pre-employment and random urinalysis on a recurring basis.
  • Must pass pre-employment and annual medical examination of physical, emotional and mental stability, IAW AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program, IAW AR 190-56.
  • Employee will be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays; and may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
  • Must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons. Must pass an initial and semi-annual qualification of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • IAW AR 190-56 dtd 15-Mar-13, you must pass a physical agility test (PAT) within 30 days of hiring date and annually thereafter. The physical agility test includes executing 19 pushups in two minutes and a 1.5 mile run in 17:30 minutes.
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled.
  • US Army Civilian Police Academy (USACPA) certificate; OR have a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General; OR you will be required to complete the training within one year of your hire date.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Enforcing civilian and/or military laws, regulations, policies, standards or procedures; 2) Coordinating with local law enforcement agencies for warrants, apprehension, access to the installation, etc.; AND 3) Operating a computer to access, compose, and/or provide required information.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Required Certification: Must have successfully completed one of the following: Mixed Basic Police Officer Training Course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC); Accredited civilian (Local or State) Law Enforcement Training Academy; Certified Military or Security Police training program (i.e. the United States Army Military Police School), or, if not previously certified, you will be required to complete the training within one year of your hire date.

Education
