Duties

Help
  • Conduct physical inspections of inbound and outbound empty and loaded transportation assets and conveyances (trucks and vehicles) provided for shipment for compliance prior to loading.
  • Inspect, monitor and evaluate loading process, and conduct inspection of loaded containers/pallets for compliance with specific item technical loading drawing requirements.
  • Inspect small arms ammunition to ensure segregation of ball and blank ammunition.
  • Operate equipment relative to the inspection of ammunition to include, but not limited to, trucks and carryall vans.
  • Conduct visual, mechanical, functional, static or dimensional tests in workshop, at storage location, or on a firing range.
  • Inspect fuses, projectiles, grenades, small arms ammunition, test and calibration equipment and components as well as primers and rocket pods for deficiencies, damage or other issues.
  • Conduct technical inspections, operations and activities in the receipt, shipment, handling, inspection, storage, safety, and logistics functions involving conventional ammunition items, large/small rockets and guided missiles used and stored.
  • Enforce safety regulations to operating personnel to assure safe storage, compatibility, explosive limits.
  • Provide technical guidance, instructions and information to operating personnel and monitor work performed by contract labor on explosive operations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver?s license.
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment mandatory drug screening, submit to random testing thereafter, and sign the DA Form 5019R (condition of employment) for mandatory drug testing.
  • Position covered by 1998 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C. 922). Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime or domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Must be cleared in accordance with requirements of AR190-11, Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition and Explosives.
  • Must meet the requirements of DA PAM 385-64 and FORSCOM 700-4, Training and Certification Program for personnel working in ammunition operations.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as the mission dictates.
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Must be willing and able to walk, bend, stoop and stand for long periods on various surfaces and in confining work areas.
  • Must be willing and able to lift up to 40 lbs. by yourself and over 40 pounds with assistance in the regular performance of duties.
  • Must be willing to conduct work while being exposed to ammunition and explosives, both packages and loose.
  • Must be willing and able to work in both warehouse and field environments with inside areas that are hot, cold, damp, drafty, poorly lit, or outside in prevailing weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to wear personal protection equipment such as safety shoes, coveralls, face shields, goggles, masks, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection and/or other safety equipment/clothing in performance of duties.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Surveillance Inspector~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform some tasks including handling conventional ammunition and ammunition peculiar equipment and following safe and proper methods of using tools and gauges required to perform inspection. Operate machines to perform the ammunition or explosives production process. Work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews work for completion. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Duties involve frequent walking, bending, stooping and standing for long periods on various surfaces and in work areas in tiring uncomfortable positions. Frequent lifting up to 40 pounds is required; as well as lifting of over 40 pounds with assistance.
  • Working Conditions: Works under extremely hazardous conditions as regards to exposure to ammunition and explosives both in packaged and loose form. Work is done inside in areas that are hot, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted or outside in prevailing weather conditions. Work will be performed in both a warehouse and field environment. Work may be dirty, dusty and greasy. The worker is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, falls or accidents with moving equipment. Employee is required to wear safety shoes, coveralls, face shields, goggles, masks, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection and/or other safety equipment and clothing while engaged in various surveillance operations and inspections.
