Duties

Help
  • Performs a wide variety of administrative support functions and specialized duties each requiring broad working knowledge of subject matter, procedures, or practices.
  • Performs a variety of clerical and administrative support functions relative to a specific organization and it's related program areas, prepares correspondence, meeting notes, forms, and documentation.
  • Serves as a clerical point of contact on human resource matters such as time, travel, recruitments, appointments, pay issues, on/off boarding employees, and more. Uses automated system for records maintenance and filing systems.
  • Performs property management functions for office equipment, supplies and services. May enter fleet usage, inspection, maintenance, and repair information into an automated system.
  • May perform budget and finance functions such as collecting and entering cost account information for purchases and vehicle and equipment expenses; reviewing charge card statements; and collecting and depositing receipts;
  • Serves as a principle point of contact on specific technical aspects or programs related to office administration. Provides internal and external customer service in person, over the phone or in writing.
  • Assists staff to accomplish specific tasks or plans and to develop content for educational material, brochures, or presentations.
  • May serve as State Timekeeping Liaison depending on location.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience.

For the GS-5: You must have one (1) year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: performing a full range of standard clerical assignments and resolving recurring problems. Work consists of related steps, processes, or methods. Examples include: performing administrative duties in support of the daily mission of an organization such as managing meeting schedules, reviewing incoming and outgoing mail, responding to routine inquiries from staff and customers, proofreading and finalizing correspondences, assist with tracking of budgetary obligations and expenditures; maintaining a file plan, or inputting, tracking or gathering data/information from various automated and non-automated systems. -OR- Bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school. -OR- Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and specialized experience.

For GS-06: You must have one (1) year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: performing a full range of standard and non-standard clerical assignments and resolving a variety of non-recurring problems. Examples include implementing, monitoring, and maintaining various administrative and natural resources programs such as record keeping, central files, reports control, awards, timekeeping and related activities; responding to requests for information using discretion and tact and being mindful of sensitive and confidential issues; monitor and track budgetary obligations and expenditures; locating, assembling and composing information for various reports, inquiries, and non-technical correspondence; or reviewing documents and reports for completeness and entering information into an automated tracking system.

Education can not be substituted for Specialized Experience at the GS-6 grade level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

If using education to qualify at the GS-05 level, you must submit copies of all transcripts or a list of college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid by the Department of the Interior. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
