The Northport VAMC neurology team (4 neurologists, NP, RN) cares for patients in the outpatient setting and as consultants to the ED/inpatient units and CLCs. We are a resident training site, affiliated with SUNY Stony Brook. As a Limited Hours Stroke Facility, we work closely with counterparts at SUNY Stony Brook for higher level stroke care. Additionally, we work with specialty providers in our VISN in the areas of Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, ALS, SCI, Multiple Sclerosis and Neurosurgery.

Provide comprehensive neurologic consisting of assessment and evaluation, diagnosis, development of a treatment plan, referrals and consultations, and coordination of neurologic care with other services (social work, physical therapy, consultative specialists)

-Participates in the facility mission by participating in quality management activities and in committees as assigned.
-The neurologist is responsible to perform his/her duties and responsibilities, clinically and administratively, in accordance with the guidelines developed for clinical privileges and the bylaws of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Northport, New York.
Attending neurologists perform history and physical/neurologic examinations, evaluate all neurologic problems and define the appropriate therapeutic approach and follow up. The neurologist will routinely review imaging results and a range of clinical laboratory and other tests. Results are to be reported to the patient in the appropriate time frame, with appropriate chart documentation. CPRS notes, correspondence letters and other forms of
documentation should be within the guidelines of VHA directives and facility policy. Privacy adherence with all PHI. Review consultations for scheduling or Neurology E-consultation. Care may be provided face to face or virtual settings, depending on the clinical need. Attendings address the unique characteristics and issues regarding the young adult (18-39), middle adult (40-64), older adult (65-80), and geriatric (80+) patient, taking into
consideration cognitive deficits and emotional and behavioral reactions to stressful life events such as ill health, economic problems, and the loss of significant others. Perform clinical functions appropriate to credentials, training and experience. Participates in the assigned on-call and inpatient/ER consult rotation. All activities are performed compliance with VA and VHA Directives, facility policy and The Joint Commission standards.
Participates in service quality/performance efforts. Conducts peer reviews when requested. Responsible for timely completion of assigned Compensation and Pension exams, documentation. Adheres to all facility requirements such as TMS trainings, Time and Attendance policy adherence, Neurology Service policy
Attendings will be responsible for the supervision and evaluation of residents and medical students from Stony Brook rotating on the Northport VAMC Neurology service.
