Duties

Help

Incumbent will be expected to fulfill the following duties:

  • Directs Veterans, family members and other visitors to the appropriate office or service within the health care system.
  • When indicated, accompanies the Veteran to the appropriate office/service to ensure the individual arrives at the appropriate office and in introduced to the appropriate staff.
  • Responds to questions from patient concerning services.
  • If further follow-up is indicated, assists the individual to get the necessary information or forwards the
    additional 'need to the appropriate VA employee or service to provide the necessary service to complete the individual's needs.
  • Ensures adequate number of wheelchairs is maintained in the entrance foyer. In case, of medical or behavioral emergencies, the Patient Greeter will immediately summon assistance via the telephone emergency number.
  • As the first point of contact to the hospital, the Patient Greeter is required to receive and assist visitors courteously, ask pertinent questions (if necessary) tactfully, and give information and directions clearly.
  • Provides information in response to inquiries concerning the location various clinics and offices.

Physical Requirements: The work is very active. The position requires the employee to be on their feet at
least 90% of the time to greet Veterans, family members, and other visitors as they arrive and leave the health care system. The work is intended for the employee to be actively interacting with Veterans and visitors throughout the
workday.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-03 grade level: 6 months of general experience and successful completion of 1 year of study above high school with courses related to medical, health, or related fields.

Successfully completed post-high school education is qualifying for grades GS-3. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school.

OR

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-03 level.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.

General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

Combining Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying. If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. (When crediting education, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used.)

  • For GS-3 level positions, determine the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the 6 months' experience required for GS-3; then determine the applicant's education as a percentage of the l year of education that meets the requirements for GS-3. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-3.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement.
