Summary

This position is located at the Blackwell Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center in Laona, WI.

Duties

Help
  • Ensure that actions taken in dealing with students fully conform to establish standards.
  • Oversee dorm management and to maximize the benefits of the residential living situation for students.
  • Motivate students and gain their acceptance of and adherence to residential living goals; and an understanding of social behavior and motivation to effectively provide guidance required.
  • Provide individual guidance to students.
  • Recognize potentially adverse or sensitive situations that may require special or professional handling to refer to the appropriate person.
  • Meet and deal with a variety of people, including local authorities, student families, and off-Center visitors to clarify, obtain, and provide information in handling student activities and problems.
  • Utilize various Job Corps related databases and software in order to perform and process work assignments.

  • This position is required to work swing shift and night shift when determined by the needs of the Center.

  • Must obtain, possess and maintain a valid commercial driver's license.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-04: Applicants must have six months of any type of work that demonstrated the ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation AND six months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-03 grade level

OR
An associates degree or two years of successfully completed education above high school that (a) included at least 12 semester hours of subjects directly related to the work of the position; such as social behavior, human behavior, or healthcare, or (b) was supplemented by experience in activities that afforded the opportunity to acquire and demonstrate the skills required for by the position.

OR
Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Examples of qualifying experience are: General Experience - Providing childcare, performing volunteer work at a youth camp, or performing community service with disadvantaged; youths; Specialized Experience - group leader in community or residential recreation program; counselor in a your summer camp; instructor in a training program for the development of job skills; work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew; group activities leader in the Armed Services; or aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs.

For the GS-05 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level described below.

OR
A Bachelor's degree that (a) included 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position; (b) included a major in social behavior, human behavior, or healthcare or; (c) was supplemented by specialized experience as described below;

OR
Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Examples of specialized experience are: group leader in community or residential recreation program; counselor in a youth summer camp; instructor in a training program for the development of job skills; work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew; group activities leader in the Arms Services; aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities; or aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
