Summary

This position is located in a Regional Office of the USDA's Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services (FNCS). Through the Agency's Federal nutrition assistance programs, FNCS provides children and needy families with access to nutrition and a more healthful lifestyle. The Regional Office is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the Federal nutrition assistance programs administered by State and Tribal agencies within each region. Duties

Help
  • Supports implementation of Farm to School activities outlined in the approved Office of Community Food systems and regional workplans.
  • The position may be asked to perform a variety of responsibilities surrounding the implementation of the Farm to School Program.
  • Routinely carries out training and technical assistance activities to include schools, State/local agencies, producers and producer groups, Indian Tribal Organizations, local food systems non-profit/for-profit organizations.
  • Incumbent is responsible for overseeing the implementation of projects among Farm to School Grant recipients, serving as the primary point of contact for grantees within the region and planning and hosting regular meetings.
  • Participates in work groups to develop new resources or update existing materials to provide training and technical assistance to key stakeholders.
  • Supports the annual grant making process by helping to prepare and review solicitation materials, promoting grant opportunities to regional communities, serving as a review panel team lead, compiling scoring and feedback from reviewers.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Time in grade: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). You must include an SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one) that supports meeting this requirement with your application package.

To qualify for the GS-12: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11. Specialized experience is defined as:

  1. Analyzing and interpreting regulations and policies to ensure compliance with social service program requirements;
  2. Providing oversight and technical assistance to State or local agencies regarding nutrition assistance programs or social service programs;
  3. Evaluating programs to provide recommendation for improvement and/or corrective action;
  4. Communicating information, both orally and in writing, to contacts within and outside of the organization.;
