Duties

Help

This position provides high-quality reference and research assistance related to information technology, engineering, standards development and conformity assessment information processes. Includes conducting reference interviews to identify customer needs and answering ready-reference questions from outside of NIST by the Standards Information Center. This position also organizes, synthesizes, and compiles research results into a deliverable format that meets the customer's needs, including generating FAQs. Performs a range of database management support functions.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

A full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with major study in the subject-matter field of the position to be filled.
OR
Four years of experience that provided a knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of a discipline or subject-matter field; an understanding of the standard methods, procedures, and techniques of research and analysis in the subject-matter field; and where appropriate, ability to read and comprehend nontechnical material in one or more foreign languages. Such experience must have been equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.

In addition to the above basic requirement, applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of the specialized experience at the GS-7 level (ZA-I at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience providing reference and search assistance related to information technology, engineering, standards development and conformity assessment information processes; experience organizing, synthesizing, and compiling research results into a deliverable format that meets customer needs.

2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education

OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., related to the position

Additional information

The physical worksite for this position is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. However, the Standards Coordination Office is currently under a maximum telework posture due to the COVID-19 pandemic; therefore, this position is currently under a 100 percent telework schedule. The position's telework schedule will likely change in the future when Standards Coordination Office moves away from its maximum telework posture. At that time, the incumbent will be expected to report to the physical work site in accordance with the updated status requirements of their supervisor. The nature and scope of future telework opportunities will be subject to the unit's telework policy, any applicable bargaining unit agreements, and supervisory approval. Payment of relocation expenses, as applicable, will be paid in accordance with this Job Opportunity Announcement. Non-compliance with the supervisor's telework-schedule requirement could result in adverse action, including separation.
