This position is located at the 161 Air Wing/ MXS in Phoenix, Arizona. The purpose of this position is to serve as the Nondestructive Tester in the Nondestructive Inspection Section of an Air National Guard aircraft Maintenance Group, Maintenance Squadron, Fabrication Flight. This is an Air National Guard (ANG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment, and classification. The primary purpose of this position is to inspect aerospace weapon systems components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods and performs fluid analysis.

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard, in a military position assigned to 161st AW/ MXS.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a current state driver?s license.
  • Newly hired employees and employees of the Arizona National Guard are required to be fully vaccinated by 22 November 2021 or before appointment or onboarding with the agency, if after 22 November, per Executive Order 14043.
  • THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO ROTATING SHIFTS, WEEKENDS, AND POSSIBLE NIGHT SHIFT.

Qualifications

Military Grades: SrA/E4 - TSgt/E6

Compatible Military Assignments: AFSC: 2A752 minimum

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months of experience or training in using ultrasonic and/or eddy current inspection techniques to observe, measure, and detect discontinuities and flaws. Experience classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies and recommending courses of action for items of equipment. Experience recommending engine components to be inspected and forwarding results to the appropriate authority. Experience performing scheduled inspections of testing equipment ensuring compliance with established technical regulations and procedures.

Education

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):

1. Knowledge of the full range of characteristics of metals identification; wear metals identification and content; metal discontinuity and flaw detection; operation and maintenance of nondestructive test and oil analysis equipment; radiological safety and radiation monitoring procedures; technical orders and directives; and proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.

2. Knowledge of the various shapes, sizes, and density of flaw indications in parts, components, and materials being tested.

3. Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.

4. Ability to identify, locate, and measure hidden and subsurface flaws, corrosion, and separation in bonded and honeycomb structures; integrity of welds; precision dimensional and volume measurements; and hardness of materials.

5. Ability to follow technical orders engineering drawings, technical data, workbooks, and NDI literature to determine inspection requirements and area(s) to be examined.
