Duties

Help

  • Serves as a technical expert for Electronics Systems that require the solution of design, installation, de-installation, and operational problems.
  • Develops and/or assists in the development of Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs) for unique systems or equipment.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment, tools, materials, and supplies, and for committing the organization to meet customer requirements, providing schedule coordination.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and Specialized Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Your resume must clearly describe at least one year of your relevant experience, the definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service.

To qualify for the GS-12 Grade level your resume must show one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level in the Federal Service performing the following duties;

1.Providing support for the development, acquisition, logistics support, testing, and product improvements of strategic Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) earth terminal for agencies; AND
2. Developing system upgrades for existing/new Earth Terminal Complexes (ETCs) and Technical Control Facilities (TCFs) both in fixed and van configurations; AND
3. Monitoring project timelines during installations/ site surveys.


You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Planning and Evaluating


Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Education

Basic Educational Requirement-General Engineer -0800 (Transcripts Required)
A. I have successfully completed a full four-year professional engineering curriculum leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in engineering in an accredited college or university. The curriculum included differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. B. I have successfully completed a full four-year professional engineering curriculum leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in engineering from an accredited college or university that has an engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). (NOTE: You must provide college transcripts to support educational claims)
C. I have successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam (formerly known as the Engineer-in-Training or EIT), or the written test required for professional registration administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. I have completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in engineering technology (BET) from an accredited college or university that included 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, or I have completed a BET from an ABET accredited program. (NOTE: You must provide college transcripts to support educational claims and certificate of completed EIT exam)
D. I am registered as a Professional Engineer in the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or any State in the United States. The registration is based on a written examination given by the State Board. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your professional engineering license and college transcripts to support educational claims)
E. I have a combination of at least four years of college level education, training, and/or technical experience that included successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, including the courses listed in paragraph "A" above. Course work completed is fully acceptable toward the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum. (NOTE: You must provide college transcripts to support educational claims)
F. I have successfully completed of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate
professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. (You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts along with a letter of reference stating that you have at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. The letter must be signed by the engineer who provided the professional engineer supervision. It must also include their name, phone number, and list their engineer credentials such as engineer education or professional certificates



There is an education requirement for membership in the Acquisition Corps which includes:
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited educational institution (you must submit your transcripts)
Or
Possess significant potential for advancement to levels of greater responsibility and authority
And
At least 24 semester credit hours of study at an accredited institution of higher education from among the following disciplines: accounting, business, finance, law, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management, marketing, quantitative methods, or organization and management.
Or
At least 24 semester credit hours of study at an accredited institution in the individual's AT&L Career Field and either 12 semester credit hours from among the above-listed disciplines or training in these disciplines equivalent to the 12 semester credit hours. (Training courses that carry an American Council of Education (ACE) credit recommendation may be used for equivalency.) ACE credit recommendations may only be used to meet the 24 semester hour standard for Acquisition Corps membership if those credit recommendations have been accepted by and appear on an official transcript from an accredited institution of higher education. DAWIA provides the option to substitute equivalent training for the 12 semester credit hours applied to the 24 hours in the individual's AT&L Career Field and 12 hours in the covered disciplines. This does not apply to the option for 24 semester credit hours in the covered disciplines.

Acquisition Corps Members - Submit either your Acquisition Corps Membership Certificate; membership letter from the Agency's Director, Acquisition Career Management, Acquisition Career Record Brief (ACRB) or agency ACRB equivalent document.

Non-Acquisition Corps Members - Submit your transcripts. Additional documentation maybe required if you are selected.
