ALL US CITIZENS. DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (COVID-19 - VA 002) in-accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3304(a)(3) and 5 CFR 337.205(b)(1)-(4).

Duties

Help

The duties include but, not limited to:

  • Obtaining, recording, and reporting deviations in vital signs
  • Obtaining intravenous access, collecting blood or other fluid samples utilizing proper procedure for collection, labeling, and transport of specimens
  • Performing sterile dressing changes, applying simple support equipment such as a splints, arm boards, monitoring equipment, and hot or cold packs
  • Performing 12-lead EKGs connecting patients to cardiac and telemetry monitors and transporting patients on telemon to telemetry units
  • Assisting the Physician, under the direction of the Registered Nurse, with procedures involving the eyes, ears, nose, and throat (e.g., eye irritation, contact lens removal, ear irrigation, nasal packing, throat culture, removal of foreign bodies)
  • Verbalizing knowledge of the procedures for sexual assault victims
  • Obtaining appropriate tray for selected emergencies, i.e., pediatric resuscitation tray, obstetric emergency tray
  • Performing oral and/or tracheal suctioning
  • Providing care to patients following standard procedures such as observing and assisting patients receiving powered nebulizer treatments and aftercare of equipment (RN or LPN adds medications)
  • Assisting with continuous bladder irrigation (Murphy drip) by setting up equipment, regulating flow, and observing patients
  • Inserting urinary catheters
  • Performing, recording and reporting finger sick blood glucose monitoring
  • Assisting with extrication of patients from vehicles
  • Driving emergency response vehicle and responding to all ground and hospital code blue and assist emergency for outpatient services
  • Skilled in use of transport stretchers for safe patient care utilizing appropriate body mechanics

Work Schedule: 7:30 am - 8:00pm, 11:30 am -12 am and 7:30 pm -8:00 am; days variable including holidays and rotational weekend

Physical Requirements: Duties require extension periods of standing and walking; working with patients requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and similar activities; must be able to utilize good body mechanics and have physical strength to lift up to 125 lbs (individually) or 250 lbs (in a two-person lift team).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is: handling emergencies using basic and advanced life support equipment and skills; provides emergency care of simple and multiple injury situations, such as controlling of hemorrhage, bandaging wounds, and immobilization of extremities; performs patient care procedures, such as intravenous catheter insertion, venipuncture, irrigation, and suctioning; and performs 12-lead EKG's, connecting patients to cardiac and telemetry monitors and utilizing patient transport emergency stretchers.

There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement.
As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law [ by November 22, 2021]. If selected, you will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination [before your start date.] Per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, 2 weeks after receiving the requisite number of doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved or authorized for emergency use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or that has been listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization. For Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or AstraZeneca/Oxford, full vaccination is 2 weeks after receiving the second dose in a 2-dose series. For Johnson and Johnson (J&J)/Janssen, full vaccination is 2 weeks after an employee has received a single dose.
