In this position, you will assist in one or more phases of the research process related to genetics by performing a variety of technical duties in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment.
Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies plant and seed samples, and supporting records.
Actively participates in one or more phases of the research related to genetics by performing a variety of complex technical duties, in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment.
Performs the full range of techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment, including but not limited to real-time PCR machines, gel documentation systems, spectrophotometers, thermal cyclers, HPLC, and Bioanalyzers.
Tabulates, statistically analyzes, and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience collecting, preparing, and evaluating plant samples in a laboratory or field environment; compiling and summarizing data from surveys, field tests, or experiments; and operating lab equipment. Education: Successful completion of one full year of study leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees include genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, botany, or agronomy. OR
A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above.
