Duties include but are not limited to the following:
On shore or from patrol vessels at sea, is able to board and conduct field investigations of commercial or recreational fishing vessels and/or dealers for violations of laws and regulations
Conducts initial investigation of marine resource parts or products entering the United States at ports of entry (e.g., board crossings, airports and harbors) as well as interstate shipments
Maintains knowledge of and is skilled in the use of the Office of Law Enforcement Case Management System to create and update work events
Maintains knowledge of Fishery Management Plans, and fish and wildlife laws and regulations under NOAA's jurisdiction (e.g., Lacey Act, Endangered Species Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, Marine Sanctuary Act, etc.).Insert duties
Performs uniformed patrol and inspection duties, patrolling and inspecting U.S. and Foreign fishing vessels, gear, records, and catch, to ensure adherence to those laws and regulations governing both private and public fishing
Under supervision, performs investigations, conducts interviews, performs surveillance, conducts search and seizures, apprehends violators, makes arrests, and documents violations;
collects and analyzes evidence, prepares case packages which may include affidavits, court documents, and case scenarios;
This position is a covered primary law enforcement position under Title 5 U.S.C 3307 Maximum Entry Age, the special retirement provisions for Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO). Candidates without previous LEO service must be under age 37. Those with current or prior federal LEO coverage will be considered only if they can demonstrate that they will have completed 20 years of covered service by mandatory retirement age of 57. The maximum entry age requirement is waived for Veteran's Preference Eligible applicants. Your application materials must clearly demonstrate this experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: The duties of this position require exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip and knee joints is required; arms, hands, legs and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Distant vision must be 20/20 (Snellen) in each eye corrected and no worse than 20/200 (Snellen) uncorrected. Near vision must be normal. color vision must be sufficient to distinguish basic colors. Hearing must be at 30 db HL RE: ANSI 1960 or better in each ear at 500, 1000, and 2000Hz. At 3000 Hz, hearing must be at 40 db HL or better. Applicants are not permitted to use hearing aids for screening. Since the duties of this position are exacting and responsible and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or other may be disqualifying.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: This position requires the operation of a Federal motor vehicle. This position has physical requirements. This position requires the submission of a Financial Disclosure Form, SF 450.

This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. The ZA-2 is equivalent to GS-7.
Payment of relocation expenses is not authorized.
Individuals who successfully complete the program can be converted into either a time-limited or permanent appointment.
Qualifications
This position requires the employee to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition.
This position requires the employee to drive government vehicles. You must currently possess a valid U.S. Driver's license, in good standing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have one of the the required specialized experience and or education requirements as described below:
You must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of this experience include the following types of activities: recognizing and documenting fisheries or wildlife protection violations; collecting data related to fisheries or wildlife.
You have successfully completed one (1) full year of graduate education at an accredited college or university in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Such fields may include law enforcement, criminal justice, security management, etc.
You have successfully completed a bachelor's degree AND meet one of the Superior Academic Achievement provisions: (1) Class Standing: rank in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as College of Liberal Arts or School of Business Administration, based on the completed courses; OR (2) Grade-Point Average: earn a grade-point average of (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on the transcript, or as computed based on four years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B " or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field, or the required courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum. OR (3) Membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society.
