Langley's Intelligent Flight Systems (IFS) organization is focused on transforming aviation and aerospace through adaptive controls and autonomous systems, human-machine teaming solutions, integrated flight systems, safety assurance, and new vehicle/operational concepts. This position reports to the Director of Langley's Research Directorate. The Deputy Director for Intelligent Flight Systems:
- Teams with the Director of the Research Directorate and Deputy Directors to ensure integrated strategy, business development, and execution.
- Collaborates and negotiates with other Agency/Center organizations to meet Center commitments and to develop future research and technology capabilities.
- Leads development of the Center technical capabilities strategy for IFS, including workforce, infrastructure, and portfolio strategic plans that are aligned with Center/Agency goals.
- Participates in integrated strategic planning, incorporating Center and Agency Capability Leadership strategies.
- Leads integrated new business development for IFS in partnership with other technical capabilities, aligned with Center/Agency strategy.
- Promotes/facilitates interdisciplinary internal/external teaming to develop breakthrough concept-to-flight solutions.
- Serves as primary interface for coordination, collaboration, and advocacy for the Center for IFS with NASA programs and other government agencies.
- Approves formal and informal proposals for new work for IFS technical capability areas.
- Leads delivery of IFS project milestones, ensuring Research Directorate personnel, infrastructure, and processes meet technical excellence and safety standards.
This position has a positive education requirement. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in engineering, physical science, mathematics, life sciences, computer science, or other field of science.
