Duties

Help
  • Establish and nurture relationships with national, state, local, and military leaders with vested interests in improving quality of life for service members and their families.
  • Present DoD positions; influence, negotiate, and secure support and joint solutions for actions in areas of concern.
  • Perform a full range of first-level supervisory responsibilities. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
  • Govern a broad range of programs and services, specifically family support and family advocacy programs to address the needs and challenges of service members and their families to include the Guard and Reserve, as applicable.
  • Evaluate assigned programs for effectiveness and potential efficiencies based on joint service initiatives and/or federal partnership opportunities.
  • Review and collaborate in modifying existing policies and programs relating to domestic abuse and child abuse/neglect.
  • Develop policies and strategies supporting implementation and administration of policy, and strategic plans with a focus on prevention.
  • Oversee a variety of programs, services, and trainings responsive to the needs of service members and their families applicable to child abuse and neglect and domestic abuse.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating Family Advocacy Programs (FAP) related to child abuse/neglect and/or domestic abuse; developing policy of FAP's; collaborating with stakeholders to address the needs of service members and their families; preparing testimony, reports to congress, decision briefs and/or action memos to facilitate decision making; and performing a full range of first-level supervisory responsibilities, such as; assigning work to subordinates, evaluating work performance of subordinates, interviewing candidates for positions and identifying training needs of employee. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
