15 - The full performance level of a Research position is GS-15; however, promotion eligibility is dependent upon the scientific contributions of the incumbent as evaluated by a peer panel.
As a Research Biologist within the Eastern Ecological Science Center at the Leetown Research Laboratory Center , some of your specific duties will include:
Serves as a Research Biologist to support the science capacity needs and priorities for at-risk and imperiled species and communities.
Develop new or improved techniques, equipment, procedures, analysis, or documented conclusions which test ecological theory.
Develop and implementation of a research program to better understand the status, trends, drivers, and future population trajectories of wildlife populations of management concern in the region.
Develop working hypotheses relative to natural and anthropogenic factors that regulate populations and life history characteristics of wildlife, both native and non-native species.
Anticipate elements of project development and delivery will include support of biological planning and conservation design, outcome-based monitoring, adaptive management approaches, and evaluations of assumption-driven research.
Operates a government motor vehicle as an incidental driver.
Physical Demands: The field work requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Laboratory work requires moderate physical ability and agility and dexterity to manipulate samples and operate equipment.
Work Environment: Work is performed in an office, laboratory, and/or in the field. The office is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of the outdoor work. Field and laboratory duties may require the use of special protective gear. The incumbent is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow workers, or property with which entrusted.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position.
Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Pre-Employment Medical - Taking and passing a pre-employment medical examination at Federal expense is required due to the physical demands of this job.
Driver's License/Driving Record - You will be required to operate a government-owned or -leased vehicle in the performance of your official duties. Qualifications
BASICEDUCATIONREQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Biologist, all grade levels.
A. Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
B. Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above.

In addition to the basic education requirements as stated above, applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equal to the next lower grade level. Examples of this experience may include, but are not limited to:
Specialized experience includes at least one year experience to include: Perform analyses on the impacts of stressors (e.g., climate, habitat loss, invasive species, disease) and conservation efforts on species distribution, occupancy, and viability for at-risk or imperiled species and communities; Lead teams involving multiple stakeholders through structured decision making or equivalent process to analyze science-based options for complex decisions in natural resource management or biological conservation; Conduct risk assessment, species distribution modeling, population modeling, scenario analysis; formal expert elicitation, or decision analysis and Publish in peer-reviewed journals within conservation biology or decision analysis professions
