Duties

Help

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for performing technical work to support the litigation needs of the United States Attorney=s Office (USAO). Typical work assignments will include:

  • Performs a variety of automated technology necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop, and manage exhibits, evidence and data relevant to cases presented before a jury, grand jury or in other legal proceedings.
  • Assists Litigation Technology Unit staff with the day-to-day operation of the Unit.
  • Utilizes network hardware and software capabilities, including specialty software, and provides a wide range of litigation technology support to meet the USAO needs.
  • Provides assistance to litigation teams on legal automation requirements to facilitate trial preparation and trial and/or courtroom presentations.
  • Applies knowledge of Federal Criminal and Civil procedures, court requirements and district practices to implement computer applications needed for criminal and civil cases.
  • Assists in creating and coordinating e-Discovery and litigation support services in response to customer needs.
  • Provides assistance for organizing voluminous case information for effective retrieval through automated means such as scanning, indexing and controlling of documents into a database.
  • Assures documents are organized for efficient automated storage and retrieval by preparing appropriate indices.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

FOR THE GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below. Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience.

Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing routine litigation support assignments such as assisting with organizing case information; preparing discovery productions, including scanning, and coding documents and creating DVDs, assisting attorneys in preparing for court such as preparing exhibits, assisting in the use of technology to organize digital evidence, and editing a variety of legal documents.

OR

Education: Successful completion of one (1) full year of graduate education (18 semester hours or the number of units your school uses to describe one graduate year of academic study) leading to a master's degree in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, LAW; or LL.B or JD, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

OR

Superior Academic Achievement: A full four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or Law (or expect to complete within 9 months) and meet one of the following superior academic achievement provisions: (1) class standing in the upper one-third of the graduating class; (2) a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher as recorded on the official transcript, or computer based courses completed during the final two full years of the curriculum; (3) a GPA of 3.5 or higher based on the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in a major field completed during the final two years of curriculum, or (4) election to a membership in a national scholastic honor society.

OR

Combining Education and Experience: A combination of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience that may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. Education

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. If you are basically qualified for this job, your resume and supporting documentation will be compared to your responses on the Occupational Questionnaire. If you rate yourself higher than is supported by your application materials, your responses may be adjusted and/or you may be excluded from consideration for this job. If it is determined you meet minimum qualification requirements, your application will then be placed in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified.
