Duties

Help
  • You will possess knowledge of advanced research and technologies in space sciences, space and ground based sensor technology, environmental remote sensing and modeling, sensor data analysis, and interpretation/exploitation for Naval systems.
  • You will demonstrate ability to manage and coordinate the technical and administrative aspects of research and development efforts in the Division.
  • You will demonstrate ability to organize technical, programmatic and financial aspects of research proposals and projects.
  • You will possess ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • You will demonstrate ability to conduct basic and applied research in space science, and/or related areas.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band (NP-03) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: (1) Gaining experience with the conception, planning, evaluation, and development of the scientific and technical programs encompassed in space sciences; (2) Organizing technical management of programs, including recommendations regarding projects, funding and commitment of personnel; (3) Establishing and maintaining collaborations inside the organizations and provide coordination with other Navy and Defense Laboratories necessary to fulfill joint program goals; (4) Remaining informed on research topics related to the Space Science Division mission including techniques and application to Naval and wider DoD operations, providing advice which may involve new concepts or application involving originality or ingenuity; and (5) Contributing to the establishment, monitoring and correction of Division administrative policies and procedures for security, information systems, safety and program acceptance, legal agreements, export control and review.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual.

Applicants must possess for the 1301 Series:

Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Applicants must possess for the 1310 Series:

Degree in physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics

OR

Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Applicants must possess for the 1330 Series:

Degree: in one or a combination of astronomy, physics, mathematics, space science, or electronics. The course work must have included differential and integral calculus and 12 semester hours in astronomy and/or physics.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- at least 30 semester hours of courses equivalent to a major in any combination of astronomy, space science, physics, mathematics, and electronics, with required course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Applicants must possess for the 1520 Series:

Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

The total course work in the 1520 series above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.
