Summary
THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. You will serve as a Interdisciplinary Physical Scientist/ Oceanographer within the Survey Support Group, Naval Oceanography Office in NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
The incumbent will assist the Director in survey manning and survey planning task.
Assist with planning representatives regarding the writing, review, and archival of Survey Technical Specifications.
Assist to approve the efficiency and effectiveness of the survey technical specifications review process.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

Travel aboard ships, small boats, aircrafts, and detached parties ashore will be required.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR THE GS-07 Interdisciplinary Physical Scientist or Oceanographer: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:
Interpreted principles, theories, practices and established methodology of physical science.
Demonstrated surveying with use of surveying procedures and the use if surveying equipment.
Prepared presentation materials both technical and non-technical and the ability to clearly project materials orally and in writing.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE : Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement. Basic Education Requirements:
A. Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.
