- Represents the Commission at professional meetings and conferences; participates in webinars to university and other groups, and meets (virtually and in-person) with prospective grant applicants (including collaborative teams of historians, archivists, academic officers, and others); drafts social media posts, fact sheets, and blog entries, and in other ways works to promote and advise on the Commission's new Mellon-funded grants program, "NHPRC-Mellon Planning Grants for Collaborative Digital Editions in African American, Asian American, Hispanic American, and Native American History and Ethnic Studies."

- Working with the NHPRC Deputy Executive Director and other program staff, identifies potential applicants, evaluates work and research initiatives and proposals for potential contribution to various fields and the program, and identifies and provides approaches and outreach for the solicitation of applications from institutions at the early stages of planning for and preparing collaborative digital editions of historical records.

- Stays abreast of professional and technical literature in digital scholarly editing and related fields, such as digital history, digital humanities, digital ethnic studies, and/or digital archival practices, and grants administration.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience:

For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

- Researching and analyzing material to be included in published print and/or online editions of historical records; AND
- Conducting presentations on historical issues and their relevance to the organization and one or more of the following U.S. history subfields: African American history, Asian American history, Hispanic American history, and/or Native American history; AND
- Providing grant related technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders and prospective grantees

For the GS-11, specialized experience is defined as one year of experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent in either public or private sectors, that is directly related to:

- Researching and analyzing material to be included in published historical studies; AND
- Conducting presentations on historical issues and their relevance to the organization and any one of the following U.S. history subfields: African American history, Asian American history, Hispanic American history, and/or Native American history

OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR

LL.M., if related, in an accredited college or university.

OR

Combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.

Education

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

A. Bachelor's degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
