What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months/years with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

Salary:
GS-9: $58,585 (Step 01) to $76,160 (Step 10)

Help

As a Social Scientist within the Fort Collins Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Planning and conducting assigned parts of social science studies which typically adhere to established techniques and conventional method;
  • Maintaining an awareness and understanding of the latest state-of-the-art techniques, tools, and methods applicable to the conduct of social science studies;
  • Preparing reports of findings for assigned parts of interpretive studies summarizing the results of social science investigations; and,
  • Communicating scientific and technical information via the internet and presentations.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?
  • Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Individuals who have delinquent account balances from a previous Government charge card will be required to satisfy their existing obligation before a new card can be issued.

Qualifications

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

-OR-

Combination of education andexperience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field

-OR-

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

For GS-9:

In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-09 level:

Possess 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master`s or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B or J.D.) in behavioral or social science or other directly related field of study.

-OR-

Possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-7 level. Specialized Experience for this position is defined as experience in planning and carrying out social science projects in the context of remote sensing data, satellite imagery, or similar geospatial application that includes: conducting targeted literature reviews; preparing summary technical reports of literature; and communicating scientific and technical information via the internet and presentations.
