Duties assigned but not limited to:

  • Participates in subject recruitment;
  • Explains the research project and what the study requires of participants;
  • Assessment of psychopathology in subjects;
  • Serves as point of contact for any inquiries;
  • Files updated IRB materials;
  • Collects and analysis of EEG data from study participants;
  • Collects and analysis of MEG data from study participants;
  • Serves as liaison and be able to answer questions on the study protocol;
  • Organizes and tracks study progress and recruitment;
  • Develops and maintains databases, and study files in accordance with protocols;
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting patients to participate in a study protocol;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday (8:00am-4:30pm)

NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 2 years). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4-year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.

Qualifications

All applicants must meet the following requirements for this position:

English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), not person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. -AND-

Basic Education Requirement:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. In addition to meeting the Basic Education Requirement and English Language Proficiency, to qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must also meet at least ONE of the following Minimum Qualification requirements:

Experience:
Possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes: working in a healthcare environment coordinating and managing activities of research projects or studies; screening and evaluating candidates for clinical research studies; and, following research regulatory guidelines in the performance of duties. Note: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hour worked per week. -OR-
Education:
You must have successfully completed at least one (1) year of graduate level education that is directly related to the work of the Health Science Specialist position. Note: You must submit copies of transcripts with your application. Education will not be credited without documentation. -OR-
Superior Academic Achievement:
SAA at the baccalaureate level in the coursework detailed above is fully qualifying. Applicants who wish to apply under this provision must submit proof from their educational institution that they meet one of the criteria listed below. To qualify for SAA, applicants must have completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled and meet one of the following:

  1. Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university or major subdivision.
  2. A grade-point average of "B" (a GPA of 95 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study.
  3. A grade point average of "B+" (a GPA of 45 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two years of undergraduate study.
  4. Membership in a national honor society (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education and specialized experience, as described above, meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must have provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of a Health Science Specialist (as described above). Additional information

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, or small parts. Occasional travel may be required for data collection at other VA sites. No special physical demands are required to perform work.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
