The Office of Investigations investigates allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct having an impact on EPA programs and operations. OI refers its findings to the U.S. Department of Justice for prosecution or to EPA or EPA OIG management for action.

Responsibilities
This position is designated as a “Primary Position” pursuant to 5 CFR 842.802. Primary duties mean those duties of a position that: (a) Are paramount in influence or weight; that is, constitute the basic reasons for the existence of the position; (b) Occupy a substantial portion of the individual's working time over a typical work cycle; and (c) Are assigned on a regular and recurring basis.
Persons serving in this position are covered for purposes of law enforcement retirement by 5 USC 8336 (c).
The ideal candidate will perform the following duties:
Conditions of Employment
Medical Requirements: You must be found to be physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties. Selectee must submit to a drug test and receive negative test results before being appointed. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
Age Requirements: You must be at least 21 years of age and not older than 36 at the time of appointment. In accordance with PL 100-238,this position is covered under law enforcement retirements provisions; therefore, you must be appointed before reaching your 37th birthday unless you presently serve or have previously served in a Federal civilian law enforcement retirement-covered position.
Law Enforcement Training: You must successfully complete and passed Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's Criminal Investigator training program (CITP), OR an equivalent and recognized federal law enforcement training program. You must carry and regularly qualify with an agency issued firearm. Lautenberg Notice: Title 18 USC, Section 911 (g), automatically disqualifies anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence from being appointed to this position. You must not have been convicted of a felony crime. Per FLETC requisites, all attendees must be fully vaccinated with Covid-19 vaccination. The selected candidate will be required to attend the FLETC Criminal Investigation Training Program, with a reporting date on or about January 30th, 2022.
Work Schedule: The hours are long and irregular. You must be available at all times, to include holidays. You may also be sent on extended temporary duty station assignments away from your assigned office. You may be reassigned to different duty locations throughout the U.S. based on the needs of the Agency.
All applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
GL-07:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field with superior academic achievement (S.A.A.) which is based on class standing, grade-point average, or honor society membership; OR
At least one full year of graduate level education (i.e., 18 semester hours); OR
At least 1 year of specialized experience in, or related to: (1) exercising initiative; (2) attention to detail, judgment in collecting, assembling and developing facts, evidence or other pertinent data; (3) analyze and evaluate data or evidence to arrive at sound conclusions including applying new information; and (4) the ability to partner with or lead others in the accomplishment of mission activities.
GL-09:
A master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as LL.B. or J.D.) or two full years of progressively higher graduate education, in a related field, leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university; OR
At least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GL-7 level such as experience (1) identifying problem areas and proposing and implementing solutions; (2) taking responsibility for own actions and those of team members to ensure the goals and deadlines for the team are met; (3) setting work priorities and allocating resources; and (4) partnering with other individuals from within and outside the organization; OR a combination of specialized experience, as described above, and related graduate level education, beyond the first full year of graduate level study.
