Duties

Help
  • You will perform cataloging/metadata primarily using the Library's enterprise information system and a cloud-based metadata collaborative (OCLC).
  • You will manipulate records for a wide variety of library materials in various formats, including but not limited to, streaming media, digitized primary sources, born electronic material, and a variety of periodicals/serials continuously used.
  • You will approve invoices within the Library's enterprise information system and coordinate payment with Nimitz, Academic Cost Center, and Comptroller financial personnel.
  • You will utilize interlibrary borrowing/loaning information system to obtain research materials and/or lend material to other researchers upon request.

Qualifications

GS-08 Qualifications:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following in an academic library environment: 1) Utilizing cataloging/classification tools and techniques to organize library information; 2) Ordering different types of library materials in accordance with purchase card regulations; 3) Changing bibliographic information to meet library classification requirements 4) Assisting patrons at the circulation desk by answering questions and locating reference information and library materials.

GS-07 Qualifications:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following in an academic library environment: 1) Using automated library systems and databases to perform library operations ( e.g., establishing accounts, issuing materials, etc.); 2) Utilizing online library databases to locate or store materials; 3) Entering data into a library database to maintain inventory records of library material.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is mostly sedentary and includes no special physical demands. It may involve some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work involves everyday risks and/or discomforts usually associated with libraries, offices, meetings, and training rooms. Work area does not always have ideal temperature, humidity, light, or air quality. The ability to sit at a workspace for long periods of time and to use the computer for application software, Navy, USNA, or Library Information Systems, database searches, data entry, and similar.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
